In this amazing book by Eoin Colfer, Cosmo Hill is a regular boy at the Clarissa Frayne Institute for Parentally Challenged Boys, an orphanage where all of the boys are forced to test dangerous and mysterious products. Cosmo has just about had it. He is sick of being a lab rat to this place, and knows that all the testing might very well kill him sooner or later. He wishes, like all the boys, that he still had a family and that he could go free. When he sees his big chance to escape on a train, he and another boy take it and leap over the edge of the line to freedom. Then, in the midst of this, his companion dies from the fall and he gains the special ability to see the supernatural creatures called 'Parasites' that supposedly suck away a persons' life force in the moments before death. Injured and with no idea where to go, a small group of people who call themselves 'The Supernatuarlists' take him in. Like Cosmo, they all have the mysterious ability to see the Parasites and know how to 'destroy' them. Cosmo is know faced with on last question; Is he ready to embrace an actual family?
I personally loved this inspiring book. Cosmo's journey really touches you like no other. I was over the moon about it, and I know that anyone with a knack for reading will be as well.
